Why Do Clients Think This Is OK!?

Someone recently asked me, “What is the most important thing that many people forget when it comes to taking care of their skin?”

Um, do we have all day? There are a LOT of things that most folks do that I would love to change and tweak so their skin can glow to the heavens.

But, I definitely don’t expect that. I expect you to take care of your life, your well-being, your mental sanity, and leave the skin how-tos up to me. To have the expectation on yourself that you should just know this sh*t is ludicrous, and we certainly didn’t learn from Oil of Olay ads or Oprah’s favorite things.

So, what has stumbled across my facial bed recently… and has come up multiple times… is this whole idea that “because I don’t wear makeup, I don’t wash my face at night.” UMM. I protest.

Even though someone may not be a makeup wearer, this does not mean that washing your face is only meant for done-up dolls.

Every day we go about our lives, and you may not know it fam, but your face is FILTHY. And I’m not saying YOUR filthy. I swear. A clean face in the morning is no longer a clean face at the end of the day. It's just a fact.

In our environment we are constantly having dirt, bacteria, and oil land on our skin and settle into the crevices and pores all day long. Plus we touch our faces, then we touch it again. Then we smoosh our face into our phones. Then we place our head into our sweater sleeve in between “working.” So by 3 pm, there is a lot on there.

Are you getting it now? Why I was so ALARMED at this concept? And yes, alarmed is a dramatic word choice, but dirty skin is drama for an esthetician.

So, the lesson: Everyone should wash their face every night. No matter what you do. No matter if you wore makeup or not. The skin needs to be cleansed and refreshed at the end of the day so it can be vibrant during the daytime.

May I make a recommendation!? Throw in a double cleanse. Cleanse once to remove the dirt, bacteria, and oil on the skin. Cleanse again to really clean the skin and refresh the pores. With these two steps, your skin can actually breathe and can optimally repair itself during the ZZzzzz’s.

What are you doing tonight? Oh doing a double cleanse? Cool, me too.

Love,
Emily
